Day 94: Beary Beautiful

With a new year, comes a new chapter in my blog. I'm going to start incorporating children's and toddler clothing every once in awhile to add a new dimension. All outfits will still follow the same rules of being a bargain and they will all be stylish, while also age-appropriate. This little number was just so ridiculously cute that it had to be bought. It's from a local thrift store that is marketed especially towards children. The shoes were bought from someone on Facebook who was selling clothing for kids, and sparkly Hello Kitty shoes are too good to pass up for a little girl. Matching means quite a bit to me so it's soothing to deal with children's clothing since most of it comes in sets. Her socks are actually a part of the leggings and it just goes to show that kids can get away with so much more and still be considered cute.

Day 93: Sun's Song

This is a whole new look for this skirt. It's still girly, but in terms of matching, everybody is on par. I couldn't resist reusing it for this outfit because it fits so well with this shirt. Incorporating past pieces periodically into new ensembles speaks volumes for the skill of a shopper and is the most economical method of living. My new boots will probably be making plenty of appearances in the future since I love them so much. All accessories adhered to a gold theme, though I decided to have a bit of fun and wear my cat earrings with my awesome necklace that my mom gave to me. For the last tidbit of matching hullabaloo, I braided my hair to accentuate the braiding on the neckline of my shirt. My aunt gave me this shirt when the shirt I was originally wearing got something on it, and the shoes and necklace were gifts. The rest of the items came from garage sales.

Day 92: Pop of Pastels

So, these flowers just got planted in my family's garden. All I can say is, I hope they survive. They make for some cute pictures, so I'll probably use them at varying intervals while they last. Anyway, my accessories today follow a pastel and off-gold theme (to match the buckle on the belt). It keeps the outfit colorful and whimsical along with the ruffles. The jewelry is a bit more vintage than one would expect to pair with this outfit, but that makes it even more interesting, because it gives another dimension to the ensemble. This whole outfit is from a bunch of different garage sales, but I'm glad I got the chance to make these pieces come alive with each other.

Day 91: Copper Meets Cognac

I was so excited when I saw this bracelet while shopping. Its stones were perfect to wear with the charm on my necklace. I didn't buy it myself, but lo and behold, it was in a box with these earrings when I was unwrapping Christmas presents. I panicked a bit when I was looking for a chain to put this charm on, because none of the ones I have fit through the tiny loop on the charm. Eventually, I just said screw it, I'll attach it using the clasp of the chain. It looks natural enough that most people wouldn't question it which I would call a win for me, especially since I ran outside and had just enough sunlight to get visible pictures. I was searching like a mad woman for what to wear that would match both the jewelry and my awesome new boots. I found it though, and everything worked out in the end.

Day 90: Café con Crema

There are so many ways to do plaid. I know most of them have their own names, but just taking a glance, it is the first word to come to mind. This one has more of a streaky, abstract look to it, but it comes right back to that root pattern. The dress and earrings were given to me as Christmas presents, and every other piece of jewelry is centered around the earrings. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the center of each of those flowers has a shiny black stone and the beads on the bracelet tie it into the ensemble. The dress has a java brown shade to it which struck me as a funny way to name the outfit, with the cream being my skin (at least in the photo). All other parts of this outfit are from yard sales and are utilized often, because a main rule for buying clothes is to make sure your basics are versatile.

Day 89: Cobbled Couture

This is just the beginning of featuring my new jewelry that I got for Christmas. It's funny how these things work out, because the jewelry pieces were given to me by two separate people and yet they look great together. It was quite the opportune moment to recieve them, considering I had been wondering for days what would match this shirt. They are simplistic, but beautiful and that is exactly what such a busy shirt needed to keep it grounded. I must say that when I get clothes from yard sales, it is unbelievably fantastic when all these new, cheap clothes fit and I can now incorporate them into my wardrobe. My nerves are always wracked when I try them on, because I hate the disappointment of not fitting and losing money. The clothes and shoes were all from yard sales.

Day 88: Christmas Cutie

So... Christmas was pretty awesome. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. The festive atmosphere and excuse to go all out in being spirited add tons of fun to my life. Obviously, red and green are the go-to colors, therefore a solid green dress and a lovely Santa hat account for that. My necklace is like a candy cane and my earrings are a simple and elegant version of Christmas attire that is not often seen. These boots remind be of little elf shoes which is why they are a part of this ensemble.
To top it all off, I've got a brilliant red lip that came as a free birthday gift from Sephora and an Urban Decay green eye shadow for the finishing touch on being a merry soul on Christmas. All of the other items are from garage sales, though that hat has been with my family's Christmas stuff for so long I bet nobody even knows where it came from.

Day 87: Fuzzy Fate

I got such a great deal on these leggings at Ross. Normally, I wouldn't even think twice about buying leggings there no matter how cute they are, because I am a bargain queen who wants the most bang for her buck. But, considering the price of $2.10, they were definitely within my range of acceptable prices. I don't think of leggings as actual pants, so a top that is too long to be a shirt, but too short to be a dress, made its way into the outfit with a red tank top underneath to match the leggings. With such a decorated article of clothing, not much is needed in the way of jewelry to make it seem like oodles of effort were expended to put the outfit together. Slap on some black flats and a warm, comfy ensemble is born. All other pieces from this outfit are from yard sales, but the price of the shoes and where they were bought is unknown for reasons I've stated in other posts.

Day 86: Cool Contrast

A striking contrast is always welcome in any ensemble. Even just using black and white, the starkness itself is what would stand out. Accentuating certain details is not too hard if you know what you're doing. If we use this outfit as the most basic example, to make the embroidery on the shirt really pop, I chose all black accents to make the white, whiter and, therefore, the black details on it even more obvious. Black and white flower jewelry also brings the mind into focus on the fact that the shirt is decorated with flowers. The shirt, necklace,  and leggings were from garage sales, the belt from another dress, the earrings a gift, and the shoes from Ross.

Day 85: Winter's Wares

The icy qualities of these jewelry pieces give me the air of a snow queen. The outfit's cool tones mixed with the jewelry, produce a white Christmas in even the warmest of weather. Living in a place where it will never snow on Christmas is no excuse not to feel like you're walking in a winter wonderland. At a glance, the beads in the bracelet could be sporadically frozen water while the necklace is closer to glistening icicles. I adore pinstripes and and who knows, one of these days I might try wearing these shorts with my shirt from Pinstripes and Peonies. I will try my hardest to feel the Christmas spirit even down to the clothes I wear, because it is just a lovely thing to experience. This entire outfit came from various yard sales.

Day 84: La Muchacha en Marrón

I felt a bit like a gypsy princess while wearing this outfit. The long boho skirt was the real seller on that point. I've been waiting and waiting for the shirt that would make this skirt pop and it was finally found at the yard sale from yesterday's post. The wee bit of Hawaiian feeling, comes from the hibiscus and other flower designs on the shirt, at least in my head it does. The bit of green not only complements the brown outfit, but it matches the beads on the sandals too. My earrings were chosen because of the metal they were made with and the fact that they have a nice layered design. My entire outfit is made up of garage sales, and the best part is that no one would ever even be able to tell.

Day 83: Checkered Chic

These shorts remind me of a picnic blanket, but in the best way possible. They bring forth thoughts of sunny days lying out on a blanket with friends, family, and finger foods. The tropical essence was decided on at the last second, since I wanted to wear the shirt and shorts together. The jewelry was chosen using an island concept and I picked the colors that would match the best. When I went to the yard sale where I got the shirt and shorts, it was a long process of sorting through every piece of clothing to pick which ones I truly wanted. It was a bit sad that the lady refused to go down from $2 a piece, but considering how much I like the clothes I bought, it seems worth it in the end. The shoes were actually on sale at Sam's Club for $5.71, which was crazy cheap I thought, for new shoes. Therefore, three pairs made their way into the cart to be doled out to various people. The earrings and bracelet are from yard sales and the necklace was a gift.

Day 82: Ridiculously Ruffly

The dress has only one color, gray, and yet its unique design draws the eye in. It's not eye-catching just attention-keeping once it has been seen.  My jewelry is so light of a lilac that it actually appears gray, so it adds color while keeping to the neutral scheme. Originally, these pieces of jewelry did not go together, but with all the silver charms and usage of the same tone of stones, they seemed like they were meant to be. For the bit of gold in the earrings, I chose my gold sandals to complement it, but keep the attention on the dress. The shoes were a gift, but the other pieces are from yard sales and met by chance in my home. It helps though, to have an inventory in your head of what you own so while you're out shopping, you can spot items that will be great to wear with what you already have.

Day 81: Casual in Cream

This has been one of my most challenging outfits yet, even if the end result is really quite casual. I didn't know whether to accentuate the black, or wear shorts or a skirt, or wear a shirt underneath to make a collar. It all came down to a pair of youthful capris and flats that include all the colors of the shirt's flowers. The necklace matches the flowers too and adds some character with the creative way it was made. My bracelet had the feeling that it could fit into the whole scene even if it didn't match perfectly with any particular piece. Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one. I kept it from getting too old-fashioned such can be a bit difficult with shoulder pads but I managed and it just prices my point further that anything can be beautiful if one just tries hard enough. Everything is from yard sales, except I was given this sweater, so I have no clue where it came from.

Day 80: Neat in Navy

So apparently my Neverending Bag of Clothes does have an end and this is it. It has lasted me for a ridiculously long time, from day one to day 80. This sweater is the last piece from an incredibly lucky situation of filling a bag with as many clothes as possible and then paying $1 for whatever fits in it. Let's just say that bag was stuffed so full I would have had a hard time fitting even a paper clip in there. It's a beautiful outfit that has a bit of an edge to it with the boots and jewelry. The earrings are clip-ons and though they aren't a replica of the necklace, they do pair well together considering they both have transparent stones and sharp ends. The belt came off of the Vintage Vibe dress and the leggings and jewelry come from lots of yard sales.

Day 79: Brass and the Beast

My tiny lion earrings are simple, but awesome. The fine details of the mane and teeth give a realistic feeling to them that is commendable of the artist. The brass heart has a bunch of little dimples all over it for some texture of intrigue. My main motive in wearing the brass heart was to match the metal pieces at the dress's waist. Overall, it's a simple, easy outfit that matches in a very subtle manner. The dress is from a thrift store type place that was under a church I found while visiting Long Island, NY. Everything else is from various garages sales along the path that is life.

Day 78: Tranquil Turquoise

A splash of color in a black and white outfit gives a special pop. The turquoise stands out given that there is no competition from other colors for attention, and that makes it all the more lovely. On another note, I just love it when dresses and shirts have interesting backs to them. Honestly, it can save the shirt from being another boring piece of clothing if there is an interesting design tactic, even if it is in back. This is the stylish way to do business in the front, party in the back, and one that won't stop being fashionable. If I wanted to, I could hide the design with my hair for the day and show it off later. My outfit is all yard sales today, though I've mentioned that these shoes' price is unknown.

Day 77: Lilac Loot

Today's treasure is simple and cute, with my earrings as the favorite piece. I didn't want to be too monotonous with the coloration; therefore, these moccasins made their way into the mix from someone else's closet. I used the necklace to incorporate the shoes further, and ensure they would not seem out of place. The minute these earrings came into my possession it was fate for them to be paired with this shirt that matches so perfectly. The skirt plays off the gray of the shirt, and in turn, everything matches something. The shirt, earrings, necklace, and Abercrombie and Fitch skirt are all from garage sales and the shoes are borrowed.

Day 76: Notably Nautical

Today's outfit is a bit off from the beaten path with this old-style sailor shirt. Navy and white were my chosen color scheme to go along with the shirt and most items relate back to the sea in some way. There are boat shoes, a ship, a sailor shirt, and the sun which makes my nautical theme complete. The fine craftsmanship of the ship is remarkable down to the tiniest bumps and swirls. The shorts are from Ross; the earrings, necklace, and shirt are from yard sales; the belt came with another pair of pants bought a long time ago; and the shoes' story is in Pinstripes and Peonies. It's fun to stray from the norm.

Day 75: Incredible Iridescence

Abalone shells are such a beautiful material to make jewelry with. That natural iridescence is to die for. Jewelry pieces can automatically be paired together just because the shell is used and they can look as if they were made in a set. I like to use these pieces with this shirt because the word guess is written in a silver metallic material and the butterflies on the shirt are blue and green. The blue is the same as that of the skirt and the iridescence just goes perfectly with all its green and blue splendor. Simple black flats are an easy way to complete the outfit. Everything in this outfit came from yard sales. It would be nice to know the stories of all my clothing before they came to be in my possession, because I have stuff from pretty much every decade back to the early 1900s. Some is handmade, some came from a store, some I have absolutely no clue. It's a toss-up, but maybe that is part of their allure.

Day 74: Truly Tweed

Once you figure out your size in Chico's and Michael Kors, it is so easy to fall for these clothing lines. They have classy, elegant clothing and is nicely shaped for a woman's body. The tiny details of sequins made to look like flowers and pearls make this coat lively and unique. Pearls were my choice to keep with the professional lady theme and to match the bead details. I'm not sure about the shoes' price (check out Breezy Blue for why) and the rest is from yard sales. These prices where things cost next to nothing make me a bit spoiled, because then I don't want to spend the money on anything even slightly expensive. It's probably better that way, for at least I'll be less tempted to spend my money. Garage sales are a great idea for those who want to save their money and still get great quality items.

Day 73: Riveting Rose

Even in 2-D, roses still have an amazing impact. They have enough beauty to transcend even the boundaries of real and fake, flat and 3-D. It matters not what color they are, the material used, if they are alone, or in abundance, they are radiant, they are roses. Perhaps, it is my love of intricacy that draws me to the rose, with its layers and layers of thin petals. The blue rose is one that does not exist in nature and is therefore the subject of stories throughout history and clothing designs all over the world. The shirt and pants are from Ross, the earrings and shoes were a gift, and the necklace is from a yard sale. The blue in the shirt is even more striking when paired with the jeans and the white and blue shoes. My earrings are meant to accentuate the tiny leaves of the necklace and shirt. This is what it means to give an outfit a lot of thought and feelings when creating it.

Day 72: Glorious Gold

Gold is one of the quieter colors in this dress to choose to accentuate, but it all ties in together. It makes me feel like I've struck oil when I see all this black and gold melding into a cohesive ensemble. Circles are everywhere, the colors coincide, and the feeling of elegance is carried throughout, so this is yet another successful day in my wardrobe. Interestingly enough, it's all yard sales today, though as I've mentioned, the shoes were a gift so who knows with them. Altogether, in the overall look, the accents are pretty subtle which can be hard when everything matches so much.

Day 71: Maroon Marauder

I am nowhere near a plunderer, but I am a fan of Harry Potter, so the title is a small homage to one of the best book series ever. The Neverending Bag of Clothes strikes again and that is how I got this sweater and the leggings. The belt was taken off another dress and added here because the color is a match for the leggings. I borrowed the shoes, the necklace is from a yard sale, and the earrings are from Claire's. It has taken so many days, but the Neverending Bag apparently does have an end. There is only one more item, a sweater, and I'm going to try to make it have a very different feeling than this outfit.

Day 70: Chillin ' in Cheetah

Mixing the bold with the subtle can create quite the beautiful effect. From far away, the only things that are actually noticeable are the boots. But throughout the outfit are accents that match the main element. Everything was almost all cheetah, but I wanted a necklace in this outfit so I had to settle for the tiger print of the same colors. The dress is from Victoria's
Secret and is actually comfortable. I love it when clothes have a hood and pockets. I may never use the hood, but I like having the option to do so. It's a fun outfit to brighten up any rainy day while still keeping warm and dry. The earrings and bracelet were gifts, and everything else is from different garage sales.

Day 69: Mint Magnificence

I've been wondering lately what I could wear with my Paris jewelry, and then, I saw this in my closet and it was so blatantly clear. The bows, the mint,  the pink, it could literally not be any more perfect. When I got this bracelet as a graduation gift, this necklace and the earrings immediately popped into mind to create a match set. Roses, gold, pink, mint, bows, pearls, Eiffel towers, they could have been made for each other. My favorite part of this dress has to be the back because those bows are ridiculously adorable. The dress was on sale at Kohl's for $10.99, the earrings are from a set from Claire's and individually they would have been $.50, the necklace is also from Claire's in a bogo for a penny (or was it free?) sale, and the shoes are from a yard sale. I am honestly amazed by the way things fit together sometimes.

Day 68: Time for Teal

It feels so productive to match. A lot of decisions go into which necklace should be paired with which outfit and what shoes would look best. In the end, all I might get is a passing "you look cute," but most people don't understand my level of enthusiasm for matching. The only reward I get after putting in so much effort is self confidence, and honestly, that is enough for me. The necklace and earrings were bought as a set from a yard sale (all the other items came from yard sales too, with the exception of the tights) and have the perfect hues for this outfit. The tights came from Target and were bought with those free gift cards, so they might as well be free. I always feel extremely feminine when I wear tights. It's actually pretty hard to express why, but try it sometime and maybe you'll feel the same way.
