Day 63: Marvelous Magenta

This dress was one of the six items mentioned in yesterday's post and it is marvelous. It fits like a glove and has such a girly feeling with the fluttery material. These tights are from Target and were bought with gift cards. The shoes are borrowed, so I don't know the price. This beautiful, vintage necklace is made out of carnelian and has brownish red hues (look it up it's awesome). The jade-colored earrings have some quite interesting etchings that remind me of ancient times. Each thing in this outfit is so rich and gorgeous, I just can't get over it. Everything except the tights were from yard sales. I love wearing deep colors, it's quite satisfying.

Day 62: The Truth is in the Triangle

If you've ever played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Yu-Gi-Oh, then this romper should remind you of the lens of truth and the eye of truth from each of these, respectively. The pattern is quite abstract on this, and there is a sense of being watched if one stares too long. It is a fantastic feeling to find a piece of jewelry that matches perfectly with a new article of clothing. The colors all coincide and even the square/diamond shapes have a 2D counterpart. Green is one of the least noticeable colors on the romper, so with the help of select jewelry pieces, it came to the forefront. It's all yard sales today and may I just say how much I love it when people want to get rid of all their stuff and price everything dirt cheap? That was what happened with the romper and 5 other really beautiful pieces of clothing.

Day 61: Peace and Plaid

Today's outfit has a bit of a dark edge with a girly twist. The beads add just the right amount of brightness to keep it from getting too deep in the shadows. This dress has the slightly frustrating quality of being too long to be a shirt but too shirt to be a dress, so it requires the perfect solid leggings to keep everything covered, without being too bulky like jeans. It's usually a pretty safe bet to accentuate the darkest color of an outfit to make the other colors stand out. The opposite can also be true, where the lightest color gets the spotlight, but that can be tricky, if it's too bright, you might start blinding people. I was actually given this dress (so I don't know the price) and I accessorized it to fit me and my style using the belt and boots and beads. I own basically zero plaid so it's great to add another pattern to my collection. Everything else was from yard sales (the boots/leggings have been discussed before).

Day 60: Zigs and Zags

I had quite a bit of trouble finding a shirt to coordinate with this skirt. I finally decided on this American Rag shirt, because its colors are similar to those of the skirt and they both have a feminine, relaxed feeling to them. It seems like more and more colors were added to the mix, but the most obvious of the bunch were repeated throughout to create a strong connection. The bracelet was a deal at Macy's with a 50% discount. Though it was still a bit on the pricey side, sometimes it's hard to resist such a beautiful item. Besides, the entire outfit is basically $17 even with the bracelet. My Ralph Lauren flats get me through a lot of tough times when it comes to picking out shoes. Having two pairs of shoes that are on the brink of formal and casual in black and white can save a lot of headache. (All other clothing is from yard sales).

Day 59: Brown Blossom

These heels are any shopper's dream, considering the ridiculous reduction in price they had at Ross. I've been very focused on featuring this coat, so it was perfect timing to do so with the heels. They have a bit of sparkle on the toes, which means I had to accentuate it with some extra rhinestones on the earrings and necklace. Before we get to the floral shirt, the other pieces are fairly basic colors which means they'll never clash when worn together. The shirt has a great pop and the little leaves on it are in harmony with the gray shoes. Other than the shoes, yard sales are the origin of this outfit. The prices at garage sales cannot be beat, but every once in awhile, I come across an item at Ross, for example, that is on par with those prices. That is a truly beautiful moment.

Day 58: Naturally Neutral

A pop of color on a neutral background is the best way to make an item stand out. The eye will immediately be attracted to the most colorful area, to truly make the jewelry, shoes, etc. become the centerpiece. Despite being in great contrast to one another, the clothes and jewelry fit together through their striped and solid pieces. It's another day of the whole outfit being from yard sales. These White House Black Market shorts are from the same bunch as the other pants and shorts I've been wearing recently. My advice to those who don't want to regret their decision later is that if you find low price jeans that are cute and your size, buy as many as you think is necessary because otherwise it will haunt you. I got lucky that this yard sale was near my house and that they were open the next day, so that I could go back and shop some more. Most of the time, that opportunity doesn't come around twice.

Day 57: Birds in Blush

Do you ever wear an outfit so often or have had it for so long that it doesn't feel as magical as the first time you wore it? Don't get me wrong, I love this ensemble and I think it is gorgeous, but the problem was that the newness wore off. It's like a child who is enthralled with a new toy for a few hours but never touches it again after that unless it is taken away and reintroduced later. This was the same situation, so I put it away for some time and didn't take it out again until today. One thing about it that will never cease to amaze me is how perfectly everything matches. The bird on my necklace and those on the dress, the shoes and the color of the bracelet and birds' outlines on the dress, the cardigan and tights, and last but certainly not least, the rhinestones of the earrings and bracelet, are all aspects that make this detail work completely stupendous. The tights have the same story as all the others and the dress is from Ross. Everything else is a yard sale ware.

Day 56: Elephant Everlasting

Elephants are some of the best animals ever. Jewelry in the shape of elephants, clothes with elephants on them, you name it, I want it. Unfortunately, I don't come across super low-price elephant items often. The elephant on this shirt is made up of many intricate designs and underneath are the words Siamese elephant, Platapien design, Bangkok, Thailand. Copper and brass tribal-like jewelry was optimal to coincide with the color of the elephant and the shoes. Some tree pruning was being done, so I decided to set up my mirror in front of a fallen branch for some extra intrigue (and I love that the shoes match the palm so well). Speaking of shoes and matching, the shoes are borrowed and though it's hard to discern, the shirt color is actually the same as the needlework on the Caché shorts. Even when my outfits are simple on the outside, underneath lies a trove of hidden details.

Day 55: Golden Girl

Accessorizing should be considered an art form with how much time, energy, and attention to detail I put in. I went for a toned down and simple version of a gypsy, boho style. Gold is always a good choice to pair with brown and black so all my accessories, as well as my shoes, were chosen with that in mind. My White House Black Market shirt and all the jewelry are from yard sales. The Chico's skirt was actually given to me by my AP photography teacher when I was in high school, because I was the only person she knew who was tall and had a waist small enough for it. I've mentioned before that I don't know the price for these sandals, but they're so beautiful there's no way I can say no to using them here.

Day 54: 2-D to 3-D

It always amazes me how perfectly this ring and the floral design on this shirt match. The dots are a recurring theme throughout the outfit, from the bumpy texture of the ring, to those on the bracelet, shirt, and shoes. I find these capris quite interesting in a subtle way. They are lightly distressed in a couple areas but nothing too major and have a slight acid wash to them. The darker section of them goes well with the blue of the ring and shirt. The red lining and black on the shoes fit nicely with the red borders on the shirt and the dark background behind the flowers. Everything coincides and I can feel a moment of immense satisfaction. It's all yard sales today except for the bracelet which was a gift. It pays to remember where each garage sale you visit is, because I actually went back to this sale to pick out a slew of name-brand jeans. These ones are Tommy Hilfiger and when new, these would have cost a bundle, but I got them for $2, so I'm pretty sure I win this game.

Day 53: Aztec Allure

The Aztecs' symbols were very intricate and the circular designs on this dress are reminiscent of those emblems. The leading lines are gorgeous and bring the word empire to mind, maybe because the middle section reminds me of a tall building. Purple was my color of choice to bring to the center stage from this dress and the silver belt goes along with the silver in the jewelry. It was difficult to capture the color in the necklace's stones, but it is the same as the deep plum in the middle of the earrings. The black shoes coincide with the outlining in the dress and pretty much any semi-formal black shoes would have worked, from boots, to flats, to sandals, to heels. Such a detailed dress does not need much to complement it as it is beautiful all on its own.

Day 52: Amber Angel

Despite loving hats, most of them don't fit me, so even if I think one is super cute, I can't wear it. Luckily, I found this one at a yard sale and, though it is a bit off, I can still wear it. The hat was the key piece in this outfit that everything was compared to to make sure it would all fit together. I kept the clothes under the cover-up neutral, because then the white of the hat and shawl will stick out more. All my jewelry (placed on one hand for the photo) is made of a golden-brown metal and various shades of amber-colored stones to match the shirt and shorts. Real amber is fossilized tree resin (not sap) and is quite beautiful. My shawl was from Ross and the rest of the outfit, including my White House Black Market shorts, is from yard sales.

Day 51: The Rarest Rose

Roses are red... wait I think my romper didn't get that memo. I suppose its creator would rather decorate it in roses so rare no one has ever seen even one in the wild, and only exists because of genetic modification. But hey, it's pretty so let's forget about the science. I got this beautiful piece of clothing at a yard sale and it is originally from Papaya. I love everything about it from the tiny polka dots to the ruffles. The ridges on the bracelet's beads create a dot-like pattern and it has a blue tint to it that is a bit hard to see in the photo. The ring and shoes both match perfectly with their light and dark blue. Rompers are so cute and are a lot like dresses in their simplicity. You can pick one up, wear it, and look like you put a lot of effort into your outfit without wasting decision-making power. The only bothersome thing about them is trying to use the restroom. So that's about it. If you want to share your favorite romper or two then you can add a link to them in the comments section below.

Day 50: Dreaming of Dragonflies

When I got this skirt, I thought, how can I pass up the opportunity to wear every piece of dragonfly jewelry that I own. It was just a happy coincidence that they all came together. Even if two pieces are not perfectly coordinated, another one like this bracelet with its green, red, and pink stones can tie them into the whole outfit. On another note, mixing patterns is possible if you know the basics, and the main thing to remember is that stripes are neutral. At the very least, the colors in the patterns should match. If two items of the same pattern are being used, then the colors can be different. Patterns should be paired in the form of one big and one small, such as large stripes and small polka dots. Normally, I am not a person who mixes patterns, but if the mood strikes me and two items look amazing together, then I will participate in the practice. Whenever I wear maxi dresses and skirts, I like to be able to see the tops of my feet, which means I generally wear sandals and flats with them. Today, pink ones were chosen that match the color of the stones in the bracelet and necklace. Everything is from yard sales, and that makes the end of this blurb pretty easy.

Day 49: Bundled in Blue

Blue was the last thing I was feeling while wearing this outfit. The pants, by Caché, remind me of some urban decay fake tattoos I got for Christmas one year. They are both so stark and intricate that it takes a second glance to assure they are not real. All my jewelry accented the blue of the flowers and I tried to match the shirt to the darkest color of the design. Overall, it's a very detailed outfit that took quite a bit of searching through my closet and jewelry box to compile. It's all worth it, in the end, when I can see it come together in these photos. Yard sale tip: if something is just a bit out of your price range, don't be afraid to offer a lower price. I've been pleasantly surprised many times when someone agrees to $2 instead of $5. By the way, the whole outfit is from many different garage sales.

Day 48: Pretty in Pink

It's a rose-colored day and what better to wear than petal pink. Girly girls can unite behind this perfectly pink outfit. The lace dress doesn't have the usual roses and flowers on it; instead, it is made up of interconnected, leaf-like petals. My heels have cute buckle details on top and I just adore the bow on the heart necklace. Remember that an outfit can be born from anything, even a pair of earrings. I picked everything, from my dress, to my ring, to my necklace based off of those earrings. The heels just so happened to be cute and a neutral color and that is why they were featured. My earrings were bought from a half-price yard sale on a Sunday, one of the best days to go for that very reason. The necklace was a gift so I don't know how much it cost, but the other items were from garage sales. I'd like to meet a person who could resist such beautiful stuff for such low prices.

Day 47: Black Barrage

The simplicity of wearing all black is liberating at times. A few pops of color give a beautiful edge without disturbing the outfit's calm seriousness. Such a blank canvas gives the perfect opportunity to be a bit fancy with the accessories, hence why I am wearing these statement earrings and belt. The shoes are a navy blue to match the other accessories, but it is deep enough not to attract too much attention. The earrings and belt are the centerpieces and it makes them all the more beautiful. I've mentioned before that I don't know the price of the sandals, but everything else except the belt is from yard sales. The belt was bought from a local lady who was selling it on a Facebook page. That is also another great way to buy inexpensive items, local Facebook pages. Try to get involved with some.

Day 46: Polka Perfection

Polka dots are so amazingly fun because they add a pop to any outfit. Imagine this dress as just plain navy blue. It would not be nearly as awesome. To top it off, the dress has a vintage style to it that just screams red accessories. It's a yard sale kind of day when it comes to this ensemble, from the tips of my ears to the ends of my toes. Speaking of shoes, these wedges are pretty spectacular with their dots and plaid buttons. In terms of accessories, red jewelry and a red belt fit quite nicely with the dress's atmosphere, and besides, who doesn't love a good Claddagh ring. Overall, I would call this outfit modern with a vintage twist mainly because all this stuff looks too new.

Day 45: Fake Flowers are Forever

It all started with this shirt. I got it at a yard sale the other day along with the shoes and earrings. All over the shirt are flowers with beads acting as seeds in the middle. Rather than color match my jewelry to the shirt, I figured flowers with various materials in the middle would suffice. The red earrings have metal prongs, the yellow ring has a rhinestone, and the pink satin flowers on the necklace have pearls. The flowers provide a nice vibrancy to contrast the calm green of the shirt. Contrast can be just as good as matching perfectly. The shoes are a mix of brown and a green of the same shade as the shirt, with little beads strategically placed along the criss-crossed straps. Normally, I would not condone wearing sandals with such tall straps with long capris, but considering how little surface area the shoes actually have, I thought it looked fine. The ring and necklace came from other garage sales and the capris are from Ross so of course they are all low price.

Day 44: Silver Siren

This is a dress that makes me feel like one of those otherworldly, high-fashion models seen posing in the glossy pages of a magazine. I'm not a particularly tall person, but this dress gives such height with its floor-length skirt and stark white fabric. There aren't many occasions to wear such an outfit, but sometimes, it's nice just to put on an item that makes you feel beautiful to boost your daily confidence. I accessorized the dress with sharp silver jewelry for an edgy, modern effect. The ensemble is angelic and fierce and vintage and contemporary and homemade and glamorous all at the same time. On another note, my shoes can't really be seen under the dress. They are just tall enough that the dress doesn't touch the ground at all, so about 2 inches. They're black peep toes with a silver, metal loop on top. The black doesn't stand out in the shadow of the dress and the silver is the bit that completes the look. Once again my entire outfit is from yard sales. This time, I actually had a family member tailor the arms to fit mine, which is a great option if you buy something that is just a bit off from your physique.

Day 43: Fresh Frock

Yard saling last Saturday brought me yet another dress. This one is more comfy country. Jean fabric is something that will always be apart of the everyday so it's fine to wear plenty of it. There are small details to keep  the dress from getting too plain like the embroidery at the neckline and the flower buttons. I decided to play up the country edge with the brown suede, jewel - encrusted wedges. White jewelry that was neither too fancy nor too plain was chosen, because I didn't want it to be overdone or old-fashioned. This entire outfit is actually from garage sales so there isn't much to tell on that point other than, you need to go to yard sales to find amazing stuff. If you skip out every weekend, (Friday, Saturday, Sunday are yard sale days) then it will be no surprise when you have nothing new to show for it. Going a bit later in the weekend has pros and cons. For one, people often have half off days later on, but you could have also missed out on a lot of cool things.

Day 42: Fit and Flare

The majority of this outfit actually came from the same garage sale. The necklace and shoes are the exceptions to that statement. The blue and the orange-yellow contrast quite nicely considering they are on opposite sides of the color wheel. Even nature seemed to agree with this outfit since the leaves and jewelry match so well. There is a bit of an island feel to this with the shell earrings, palm tree necklace, strapless dress, and boat shoes. The top is extremely fitted and that makes for an even more dramatic flare at the skirt. I love the hole details that form flowers at the hem. It takes a step away from being just a regular dress. The dress is originally from Hollister but has found its way into my possession at a tiny fraction of the store price. That is what it means to yard sale.

Day 41: Forties Fur

I'm absolutely in love with this outfit. The dress appears to be vintage judging from the design and fur trim that was popular in the forties. It is homemade based on the inside seams. The fur hat matches perfectly with the trim and emphasizes the era. My boots have been featured before, but they become practically unrecognizable when included in an outfit of a different time period. I tried to choose jewelry that would fit the vintage feeling, but also accent the outfit. This beautiful dragon's breath stone ring goes perfectly with the coloration of the practically iridescent blue dress. All the jewelry consists of triangles and circles to create some correlation between them. Every single item of this ensemble is from a yard sale, but the beauty comes from the hard work of generations past.

Day 40: Predator and Prey

Foxes have been known to prey on owlets while the mother is away from the nest. The sneaky creatures use their stealth and prowess to attack the babies. They dare not take on the full grown owl though, for they will not survive the encounter. It is this complex and dangerous relationship that led me to create an outfit that incorporates both of these fearsome predators. Without that back story, one might think it is just another cute ensemble, so it was needed to give perspective. I made a complicated 5-strand braid to suit their connection and to make the outfit a bit more interesting. I borrowed the shoes from someone, so unfortunately I don't know the price (why buy when you can borrow an item that somebody else never uses). The capris and shirt came from Ross, the rings and necklace a yard sale, and the earrings from Claire's when there was a BOGO 50% off sale. Since I was shopping with someone else and they bought something, I got the BOGO. They came in a set of six, so I'll price based on the earrings being 1/6 of the package.

Day 39: Sailing and Stripes

Today, I have a dress that has been a constant companion over the years. It has a wonderful, whimsical flow to it and a smart design. The stripes are not perfectly horizontal, which is ideal considering that that is not very flattering on most people. Unlike a lot of long dresses, this one doesn't get in the way due to the strategic placement of shorter fabric in the front and sides. It is a lovely dress to have gotten from a garage sale for so cheap, and its quality never wavers. The necklace actually came on the gold chain, so I put the rope-like nature of the chain to good use by matching it to a bracelet with a similar design. The white and various blues on the charm are all accounted for in the stripes of the dress. I've mentioned before, in Breezy Blue, that the price of these shoes is unknown, but they are not that important to the look and other black or white or blue shoes could be worn at the discretion of the wearer.  The ensemble has a certain simplicity to it with the lack of loud jewelry, yet still maintains an unending beauty.

Day 38: Day of the Daisies

This BCBG dress has been sitting around for years and has a similar story to yesterday's shorts in that I try it on every once in awhile to see if I can wear it. Judging by those photos, I'm sure you can guess what the outcome was. It's a happy day when you finally fit into something you've been pining after for such a long time. The sandals are super cute and go nicely with the sweetness of the dress. My jewelry was chosen based off the flowers on the shoes, so that it all coordinates. The necklace was actually a free gift with purchase, and the rest of the items were from yard sales. Try thrifting and yard saling for yourself and you will discover the joys of finding beautiful clothes for ridiculously cheap prices.

Day 37: Beautiful in Black y Blanca

I have been waiting for so long for these shorts to fit me. I've had them in my drawer and I try them on every once in awhile to see if I can wear them.  Well, the day finally came today, so of course I had to feature them. They are Ann Taylor, one of my favorite brands and I just love their design. It is similar to that of the crackle nail polish that splits apart over a bottom layer of polish of a different color. My shirt is White House Black Market and it is a major staple of my wardrobe for when I need something simple, but fitted. The silver and black jewelry has a classy feel to it, kind of like the stuff Brighton sells. My entire ensemble is made up of yard sale items today, though the brands are all nice ones.
